Hearing
Impaired Kids Endowment Nebraska Job's Daughters play an important role in serving the community. Our charity, the Hearing Impaired Kid's Endowment (The HIKE Fund), provides hearing-assisted devices for children in need from newborn to 20 years of age. In Nebraska the Grand Guardian and Associate Grand Guardian, along with their HIKE Committee, have had the privilege of presenting nine HIKE awards to needy children since September 2002. It is very gratifying to see the help we are able to provide these children with a range of hearing assistance devices, including hearing aids. The success of HIKE gives Nebraska Job's Daughters a sense of pride and accomplishment equal only to the pride of our Masonic heritage. The motto of The HIKE Fund is Kids Helping Kids. This is a unique experience for girls of 11-20 who can boast that they have been instrumental in changing another childs life. The Bethels have arranged for the presentations, and the Daughters have exemplified the Nebraska HIKE Ceremony. The HIKE Ceremony explains about Job's Daughters and their involvement in our philanthropic project of HIKE. The opportunity for the Bethels to present these awards also provides the girls and adults with a new meaning to their efforts. The experience is very moving and rewarding. If you ever have an opportunity to attend a HIKE presentation, please do. HIKE is a fully recognized 501(c)3 organization in the United States. Since its beginning in 1985, members of Job's Daughters have raised over two million dollars and awarded listening devices to nearly one thousand children. As expected, with an increase in exposure comes an increase in demand for HIKEs services. At any given time, the list of children awaiting awards is between 35 and 40. In 2001 HIKE Fund provided 110 children with hearing devices of various types. Contact your local Job's Daughters Bethel members and support them in their participation in the HIKE project. Job's Daughters are proud to be "Kids Helping Kids!"
